Our tools for the calculation of biofuel greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions follow the methodology as given in Annex V of the Renewable Engery Directive (2009/28/EC) - which is equal to Annex IV of the Fuel Quality Directive (2009/30/EC). They permit to reproduce the calculation of the Annex V default values for biofuel production pathways (such as ethanol from sugar beet) as well as to perform individually adapted calculations.

Policy makers are asked to make reference to our list of standard values in theirs national legislation implementing the Directives.

Economic operators, GHG calculation experts and other stakeholders can use our BioGrace GHG calculation tool or one of the harmonised national GHG calculators to perform own GHG emission calculations.

The BioGrace GHG calculation tool has been recognised by the European Commission as a international voluntary scheme under the RED.
