Train-the-trainers sessions

Verifiers and owners of voluntary schemes asked us to train the trainers of the verifiers, so that detailed information on how the GHG calculation tools should be used can be passed on to the verifiers as part of their trainings. That is to say that giving trainings to a large number of verifiers would not be feasible within the scope of the BioGrace project.

Liquid biofuels

These trainings will not only cover the BioGrace tool but also other biofuel calculation tools that are accepted by the European certification schemes. The aim is to reach the trainers of all the voluntary certification schemes that are recognised by the European Commission and/or are accepted in Member States. The seven schemes that were recognised by the Commission in June 2011 are 2BSvs, Bonsucro, Greenergy, ISCC, RSB, RSBA, RTRS (details on these schemes can be found on the Commission's website). We will also consider all other schemes to be accepted during 2012.

A number of four trainings will be carried out from September 2012 to June 2013. The training will be very practical, will last one-and-a-half or two days, and will take place in Germany, France, the Netherlands, and optionally in another EU country. For each training the most adequate language is chosen, depending on the attendants and on the project partners giving the training (English, French or German).

The certifications schemes will be informed on the dates.

Solid and gaseous biomass

When the BioGrace-II calculation tool for electricity, heating and cooling from biomass will have been completed, a training session for verifier trainers will be developed very similar to the one for liquid biofuels. The trainings can be given in two different forms, depending on demand:

  • A training session on GHG calculations for electricity and heat from biomass for trainers of verifiers that only work in this field or which already have been trained on GHG calculations for biofuels
  • A training session on both GHG calculations for electricity and heat from biomass and GHG calculations for biofuels.

Four trainings are envisaged from October 2014 to March 2015.
