Bioenergy related policies

The policy background of the BioGrace-II project are the Renewable Energy Directive (RED) that sets a common framework for the promotion of energy from renewable sources, and in particular the European Commission report COM(2010)11 on sustainability requirements for the use of solid and gaseous biomass sources in electricity, heating and cooling.

In August 2014, the Commission released an update report (SWD/2014/259) reviewing the state of play on the sustainability issue together with a scientific report of the Joint Research Centre on default and input values for GHG emissions of biomass. These two documents are goint to be the basis of the BioGrace-II GHG calculation tool.

Information about ongoing harmonisation processes will be described in our newsletter and can be found in the presentations of our workshops that will be available soon after those have been held.
